I've been really bad.
I've been sitting on a revise and resubmit for over a month!
A revise and resubmit means that I submitted a manuscript to a journal
and it was pretty much
- REJECTED -
however, the editors want a second look,
if I agree to make changes to the manuscript
and address reviewer concerns.
I'm given 60 days (varies by journal) to make changes
and then I resubmit the manuscript
so that it can be reviewed, again.
Oh, also, there's no guarantee it will be accepted the second time.

It seems like a lot of work but reviewer comments actually make manuscripts a lot better.
It's just... I want to focus on other projects right now;
also, it's summer and I'd rather hang out with my friends
and I've been really busy with my internship,
and I can think of a million other excuses.

I was doing really well up until now.
As you might recall, I passed my oral prelims not too long ago.
I had put a lot of work into my dissertation proposal
(over a year's worth of research and writing).

Here's something I do that helps me get motivated and started on tasks I dread.
I haven't been using it, obviously, with my revise and resubmit
but I will!

It's Mel Robbin's 5 second rule (starts around 2:04 mark).
Have you heard of it?
It's simple -- you count "5, 4, 3, 2, 1"
and you start - whatever it is you've been putting off -
you just start,
because starting is the hardest part.

After I count down,
I force myself to start working on a project for at least 15 minutes
(Mel recommends just 5 minutes),
with no break/distractions.
I know what your'e thinking:
it sounds too simple,
it sounds like it would never work,
it's a gimmick;
but, I swear to you, it works.
It's true, it is simple,
but it's not a gimmick;
it's how I got my proposal done!
It works for me because once I get going, I don't stop.
Thank you, Mel.

And if you feel like you don't know how to get started,
let me remind you that part of getting started
includes asking questions -
so send an email, make a call, or just google something!

Since I've been busy, I haven't had time to photograph my wardrobe.
So here's a simple floral land crochet dress in pink
I recently purchased from Chicwish.

I feel like the dress runs slightly bigger
so if you're debating, you could probably size down.
Also I'm carrying this wood bag from Dahong.

Thanks to my friend, Nkauj, for always putting out quality photos of me.

Hey, whatever it is you've been putting off,
try the 5 second rule and get going!
